MORE at ICOE-OEE 2026 conference
Monday 5th of October within "The right testing methodology for your technology" session, Giacomo Alessandri (VGA SRL) presented the research activity titled "Multi-Degradation in ocean energy applications: laboratory test results and introduction of a new upscaled testing architecture".
The audience was introduced to the topic of multi-degradation as well as the challenges it poses with respect to the development of ocean energy converters. The presentation also focused on the Lab-Scale Multi-Degradation (LSMD) rig current and upscaled architectures, explaining the advantages of moving from a ball-on-plate to a seal-on-rod testing configuration: geometries and manufacturing processes more representative of real-case scenarios, possibility to understand the degradation due to the environment introducing abrasive particles within the electrolyte injected in the seal pack. Finally next steps of the project were presented, both for original and upscaled LSMD rig architectures.
